![]() Finally, for a tie-in novel, the story has a tendency to invent new characters that feel redundant and serve either very minor roles in the plot, that could easily have been removed and streamlined. I would have really liked if some more dubious, but still understandable, acts were sprinkled in earlier (for instance if she'd secretly killed her abusive father). There is also an issue similar to (if much smaller than) the fall of Anakin Skywalker in "Revenge of the Sith", where the set-up is very slow and creeping, but then with a snap of your fingers, they're suddenly evil. Either one could have worked, but using one for some characters and the other for others (and in the case of The Odd Sisters, veering back and forth between the two) really undermines the story and took me out of the narrative over and over again. ![]() ![]() ![]() Show More settle between a fairy tale style where characters are heightened and unnamed ("the King", "the Queen", "the sisters", "the Mirror-Maker", "the Huntsman") and a more realistic tone where characters are more down to earth and named ("Verona", "Lucinda", "Aunt Viv"). ![]()
